LITTLE STONE – Medicare open enrollment period begins today and the Arkansas Insurance Department (AID) Seniors Health Insurance Information Program (AR SHIIP) offers free counseling to help eligible Arkansas to Medicare.

AR SHIIP connects Medicare beneficiaries, their families and caregivers with certified counselors statewide. Counselors provide advice in person or over the phone regarding Medicare, Medicare Advantage Plans, Medicare Supplements, and Medicare Part D (drug plans) at no cost to the Arkansans.

AR SHIIP partners perform information checks to determine whether Medicare beneficiaries are eligible for low-income grants and / or assistance with drug costs. Partners are looking at ways to reduce personal expenses for Medicare beneficiaries and look at other ways to save money.

The period of open enrollment in Medicare extends to December 7. During this time, beneficiaries can review coverage options and make changes to their current health insurance coverage.

AR SHIIP provides individual counseling and information to Medicare-eligible Arkansans. All services are free, impartial and confidential.
