Seminars offered at Cal U
The University of California, Pennsylvania is hosting a series of webinars to improve financial literacy. The events, which are free and open to the public, cater to young adults and their families as they consider their options in college.
“Financial Adulthood 101,” 11 am to noon on October 12: Jacquie Carroll and Schane Coker, Chartered Financial Advisors, host a three-part series to learn how attitudes about money affect your personal financial decisions and how to manage more effectively personal finance.
“Paying for College,” 11:00 am, October 14: Brian Stone of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau will discuss resources and strategies to make higher education more affordable.
“Budget and Savings,” 11:00 am, October 19: Heather Brown and Adebukola Dada of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau discuss how to budget, cut wasteful spending and save money.
Westmoreland County Community College is holding open houses on Wednesday October 6 at its Youngwood campus, Advanced Technology Center in Mt. Ohio University announces summer graduates
Several local students graduated from Ohio University during the 2021 summer semester, including:
Barbara Harring from Lemont Furnace with a BA in Communication; Chris Siksa of Waynesburg with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing; Andrew Bobish of Brownsville with a BA in Recreational Studies; James Knisley of Smock with a Masters in Engineering Management and Jenna Knisley of Smock with a Masters of Science (Industrial and Systems Engineering).
Fundraiser at Belle Vernon Middle School
Belle Vernon Area Middle School is hosting the 5K Color Run / Walk on Saturday October 9 at 8:30 am. in their classes. Pre-registration is closed, but participants can register as of 7:30 a.m. on the morning of the race, but the cost increases by $ 5.
Cal U will offer winter courses online
The University of California, Pennsylvania will be offering online classes at Winter College from December 13 through January 14. Registration opens September 27 for the semester, which is offered during the break between the fall and spring semesters.
Classes are open to students attending any college or university. Online registration and a complete list of courses are available at calu.edu/hiver-collège, as well as information on tuition and fees.
UI1 task for the scheduled meeting
The Southwestern Local Task Force 1 parent group will be holding a monthly meeting on Thursday, October 7 from 10 a.m. to noon. WU’s Benedum Fine Arts Gallery to host visiting artists
The Department of Fine Arts at the University of Waynesburg will be hosting an art exhibit through Friday, October 8, featuring special guest artist Janna Arnold in collaboration with Dig Devine.
The exhibition will be held at the Benedum Fine Arts Gallery; entry to the exhibition is free and open to the public. Arnold and Devine began their artistic journey together in their forties and have continued to support each other since then. This exhibit portrays their history of isolation and collaboration as they continue to elevate their visions for each other.
The Galerie des Beaux-Arts Benedum is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. All guests are requested to wear a mask when attending the exhibit.
Cal U open house events program
The University of California, Pennsylvania has scheduled in-person open houses on October 16 and November 13. The 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. open days are for those who wish to pursue undergraduate studies.
